Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti believes his team deserved to lose to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final.
Barcelona won the Spanish Super Cup, after defeating Real Madrid 5-2, at the Jewel Stadium in Jeddah, on Sunday evening, in the final match.
“We have to face reality, we did not defend well,” Ancelotti said in statements reported by AS newspaper.
“Barcelona scored five goals very easily, and we did not work well on a collective and individual level,” he continued.
“This makes us feel sad and disappointed, and that is football.”
He noted, “We have to go home, and our sadness is the same as our fans, but we have to quickly forget the loss, look forward, and regain good morale.”
He pointed out, “I do not want to blame anyone. We did not defend well at the back. The team was not cohesive, and we must improve our defense.”
He explained, “The game was not good from the first minute, and after we became more numerous, we were unable to create chances.”
He added, “I feel pain because of the performance, and we tried to come back after Szczesny was sent off, but we defended poorly, and Barcelona were better than us and deserved to win.”
