Tommy Paul issues fitness update ahead of Indian Wells Masters

Paul is back to full fitness following the stomach bug he suffered at the Mexican Open.

The World number 11 told reporters that he spent time in Los Angeles completing his recovery before heading to Indian Wells, and he is ready to commence his campaign at the Masters 1000 event.

“I think it’s like a stomach virus or food poisoning or something. I had a fever, aching all over my body, throwing up. It was not a fun week,” he said.

“I went to LA and did the rest of my recovery there, and yeah, started hitting on Saturday or Sunday. Yeah, now I feel great.

“I kind of made, I’d say, a full recovery two days ago, three days ago. Yeah, really just excited to be feeling healthy again and back at Indian Wells.”

Tommy Paul plays in Eisenhower Cup ahead of the Indian Wells Masters

Before the Indian Wells maiden commences, Paul played in the Eisenhower Cup, a doubles event played under the Tie Break Tens format.

Paul played alongside Australian Open champion Madison Keys and they went on to reach the final.

But Taylor Fritz and Elena Rybakina produced a dominant display to defeat Paula and Keys 10-4 to win the title.

Paul has since dropped out of the top 10 and will be looking to have a strong run at Indian Wells to boost his chances of returning to that elite group.
