ORANGE PARK, FL — Manhattan men’s golf looked to get acclimated to a new season when it hit the links at the SHU Spring Invite hosted by Sacred Heart University. The Jaspers finished Day One in seventh place in the nine-team field competing at Eagle Harbor Golf Club.
Manhattan shot +27 as a team and trail sixth-place Monmouth University by two strokes. St. John’s University sits in first place at +4.
Freshman Róbert Leó Arnórsson turned in the best individual performance for the Jaspers with an opening round score of 75 (+3). Sophomore Akshay Mandadapu registered a score of 78 (+6) highlighted by a pair of birdies on 12 (Par 5) and 16 (Par 5).
Arnórsson‘s tour of the front nine ended in solid positioning at +1.
“Not our best performance coming out of the gate,” said men’s golf coach Keith Prokop of his team’s first outing of the spring. “We did some deep reflection and will look to come back stronger from this as we prepare for the MAAC Championships.”
Manhattan’s focus shifts to the second round of the SHU Spring Invite on Thursday.
