Spring sports roundup: No. 1 Spanish Fort slips past No. 3 Baldwin County

Pressley Parks smacked a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift top-ranked Class 6A Spanish Fort over No. 3 Baldwin County 3-2 in a home game on Tuesday.

Parks drove in Jayla Harris, who had tripled to open the inning, with a single to center field.

The Toros (15-3) fell behind 1-0 after an inning on a 2-out single in the first by Madilyn Byrd. Ann Luke’s solo home run in the fourth knotted the score and Haley Hart drove in a run in the fifth to put Spanish Fort up 2-1.

Baldwin County (10-4) knotted the score with a run in the sixth on Juliana Thompson’s RBI single. Spanish Fort threw out the potential go-ahead run at the plate in the inning.

The Tigers finished with 7 hits on the day to 6 for Spanish Fort. Both teams committed an error.

Harris tripled for Spanish Fort with Madison Griffith, Haley Hart, Pressey Parks and Maggie Pollock also contributing hits in the win.

Junior Mallarie Beagle picked up the win for the Toros, give up 2 earned runs on 8 hits with 6 strikeouts and a walk over 9 innings.

Byrd took the loss, giving up 3 runs – 1 earned – on 5 hits with 10 strikeouts and 3 walks over 8.1 innings. Byrd was also 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI at the plate.

Brooke McGowin, Addison Hadley, Thompson, Macey McKinley and Nassar Brooks also had hits in the loss.

Saraland 8, Mobile Christian 1

Peyton Wills had a pair of extra-base hits, including a 3-run home run, and Madison Sawyer allowed 3 singles in a complete-game win over Mobile Christian on Monday.

Class 6A No. 6 Saraland’s Wills smashed a homer in the top of the fourth – driving in Addison Taylor and Madison Sawyer, who had doubled – to get the Gators on the scoreboard. Wills drove in Anna Bonds with a double in the sixth.

Sawyer, who had a solo home run in the seventh, struck out 8 Mobile Christian batters. The Leopards’ run came on a 2-out single by Karsyn Grantham that drove in Hailey Padgett, who had 2 hits and a stolen base.

Starter Anna Clair Robin took the loss, allowing 8 runs on 9 hits with 4 walks in 7 innings.

Satsuma 20, St. Michael 0

The Class 4A No. 10 Gators pounded out 14 hits to roll over St. Michael on the road on Tuesday in a 3-inning game. Anna Bonds had a no-hitter, striking out 8 of the 9 batters she faced.

Every starter recorded a hit for the Gators with Madison Sawyer ripping a grand slam in the first inning. Sawyer, Kinsley Byrd and Bralee Byrd had 2 hits each for Satsuma. Kinsley Byrd had 3 RBIs and Bralee Byrd had 2. Presley Wills had a 3-run homer in a 13-run second inning.

The Gators also reached on 8 walks and stole 10 bases.

St. Michael had a four-game winning streak snapped in the loss.

Gulf Shores 2, Robertsdale 0

The Dolphins won five of six games in the Gulf Coast Classic II at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex, winning two games a day in the Monday through Wednesday event. Gulf Shores is 16-10 on the season and is ranked fifth in Class 5A.

In Wednesday’s shutout of Robertsdale, KK Jacks went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Lila Kaiser, Anayia McCutchen and Madi Nelson all had a hit in the win. Anna Leigh Price picked up the win in the circle with 3 strikeouts over 6 innings.

Dickson County High of Dickson, Tenn., beat Gulf Shores 8-6 on Wednesday.

McCutchen went 3-for-4 with a triple in the loss. Neaveh James was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Nelson was 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs.

On Tuesday, Gulf Shores whipped Goodpasture Christian of Madison, Tenn., 12-2 with Price striking out 6 over 5 innings and helping her cause with a home run and 4 RBIs. James was 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs, Cam Nowlin was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Jacks was 1-for-2 with an RBI. McCutchen also had 2 RBIs.

The Dolphins also beat Brighton, Tenn., 8-4 with Price going 2-for-4 with an RBI. She struck out 4 in 4 innings. James was 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs, Anna Murray was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Rhyleigh Gleber was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

On Monday, Gulf Shores blanked Demopolis 11-0 as Price went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and 4 RBIs. James, Nowlin and Murray all had 2 hits with an RBI each. Price and Nelson combined for the shutout.

The Dolphins also beat Lawrence County of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., 9-4 on Monday. James was 4-for-5 with a double and 3 RBIs. Murray was 2-for-3 with an RBI. McCutchen and Jacks had 2 hits with 2 RBIs each.

Gulf Shores will host Cordova on Friday.

Orange Beach 16, Lee-Scott Academy 0

The four-time defending state champions, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, rolled over Lee-Scott Academy at the Orange Beach Sportplex on Thursday. Outfielder LC Robbins went 3-for-3 with a double and 4 RBIs to lead Orange Beach at the plate.

Ava Hodo and Katie King also had 3 hits on the day with Hodo smacking a solo home run and Teagan Revette collecting a 2-run homer. Kaitlynn Robertson had a 2-RBI single and Addy Oldham had a sacrifice for an RBI.

MK McMullan threw 2.2 hitless innings for Orange Beach with 5 strikeouts and a walk.

Brianna Totty took the loss for Lee-Scott, allowing 10 runs on 9 hits with a strikeout and 2 walks in 2 innings.

Baker 15, Mary G. Montgomery 13

Katelyn Cone went 3-for-4 and earned the home win for the Honeybees over Mary G. Montgomery on Thursday. Cone gave up 9 hits and struck out 9 for Baker.

Nola Havard had 3 doubles in 4 at-bats with 2 RBIs for the winners. Lauren Mordecai had a home run and 2 singles with 4 RBIs. Kaylee Boddie and Maddie Stuart were both 2-for-4.

Baker is 17-7 overall and 2-0 in Class 7A, Area 1 play.

Daphne 10, Fairhope 0

The third-ranked Class 7A Trojans capped off a 9-0 week with the 5-inning shutout at Fairhope. Daphne’s Vic Moten picked up the win with 8 strikeouts in 4 innings. She helped herself at the plate with 3 hits in 4 at-bats with 3 runs scored.

For the week, Daphne also beat Arlington, Tenn., 11-0; Battle Ground, Tenn., 9-5 and 5-1; Springfield, Tenn., 6-0; Brewbaker Tech 13-7; third-ranked Silverdale Academy, Tenn., 3-2; Class 3A No. 1 Saint James 4-0; and Summertown, Tenn., 5-1 in the Gulf Coast II championship game.

Moten, a University of Alabama commitment, threw a perfect game in the win over Saint James, striking out 13 of the 21 batters she faced. She pitched 26 innings over the week, allowing 4 hits and no runs. She struck out 60 with 1 walk and opponents batted .048 against her. At the plate, she was 10-for-22 with 3 homers, 2 doubles and 2 stolen bases.

Abby J. Johnson went 13-for-26 with a home run, a triple, 3 doubles with no strikeouts for the week. She had 7 RBIs, 10 runs scored and 5 stolen bases.

Hannah Newport went 11-for-22 with 3 doubles and 7 RBIs.

BIRMINGHAM

Thompson 6, Springville 4

Thompson earned the win in a battle of top-ranked teams on Monday at Springville. The Class 7A Warriors had to come from behind to beat the 5A Tigers.

Springville got on the board in the bottom of the first after an RBI single by Shelby Hathcock and a 2-run triple by Riley Ruple.

Thompson answered in the top of the second on a solo home run to center field by Hannah Hobbs. The Warriors took the lead in the third after back-to-back doubles from Aubrey Bauer and Kadyn Bush and RBI singles by Morgan Adolphus and Jillian Kato.

Thompson starter Aubree Hooks gave up 4 unearned runs on 4 hits over 4.1 innings with 4 strikeouts and a walk. Autumn Ingle threw 2 shutout innings in relief, striking out 3 with a walk.

Georgia Chancellor took the loss for Springville, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits with 5 strikeouts and 3 walks over 6.1 innings.

Bush went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and Kelsey Burden was 3-for-4 for Thompson.

Ruple and Hathcock had 2 RBIs each for Springville.

On Thursday, Thompson edged Hartselle 1-0 in a home game as Bush singled home the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Bush, who was 3-for-4 at the plate, also picked up the win in the circle for Thompson, allowing 2 hits over 4 innings with 6 strikeouts and no walks. Hooks went 3 scoreless innings in relief of Bush, allowing 1 hit with 3 strikeouts and a walk. Autumn Ingle struck out 1 in the final inning for the winners.

Kelsey Burden, Olivia Tindell, Bauer, Hooks and Kato had hits with Bauer, Hooks and Burden delivering doubles.

Zoe Hitt, Katie Norgard and Brityan Godfrey had hits for Hartselle.

Bailey Lawrence took the loss, allowing the earned run on 5 hits with 2 strikeouts and a walk over 7 innings.

Vestavia Hills 16, Hewitt-Trussville 9

Vestavia Hills fell behind 6-0 in the top of the first inning to the fifth-ranked Huskies, but the Rebels’ bats came alive to pound out 15 hits to pull away with back-to-back 6-run innings in a Class 7A, Area 6 showdown.

Hewitt-Trussville had 10 hits in the road loss Thursday, with Evelyn Andrews going 3-for-4 at the plate with a first-inning grand slam and 5 RBIs on the day. Zaylen Tucker and Ava Hyde had 2 hits apiece for Hewitt. Sydney Moore and Peyton Hull both singled in a run in the first inning.

Vestavia Hills responded to Hewitt’s big inning with 3 runs in the bottom of the first thanks to a home run to left field by Carmen Owen.

In the third inning, Julia Rose drove in a run on a sac fly with Addison Ferrell, Evelyn Splawn, EJ Bragan and Owen all having run-scoring singles for Vestavia. The Rebels scored 6 more runs in the fourth inning on 4 hits – including a grand slam home run to center field from Owen, who finished with 8 RBIs on the day.

Hannah Walker also had a double for the winners.

Vestavia Hills’ third pitcher, Elizabeth Yother earned the win, allowing 2 runs – 1 earned – on 6 hits with 8 strikeouts. She pitched 6.2 innings after starter Kathleen Flanagan and Lillian Ferguson were chased in the top of the first inning. Flanagan gave up 6 runs – 1 earned – on 3 hits in one-third of an inning.

Darcy Hill took the loss for Hewitt, pitching 3.1 innings in relief of starter Kinley Poe. Hill gave up 7 runs – 2 earned – on 7 hits with a strikeout. Poe gave up 9 runs – 5 earned – on 9 hits with 4 walks in 2.2 innings.

McAdory 16, Mountain Brook 1

The Yellow Jackets rolled over Mountain Brook in a mercy-rule shortened game at home on Thursday.

After an RBI single in the top of the first by Claire Robinett gave the visitors a 1-0 lead, McAdory exploded for 7 runs in the bottom of the inning to put the game away. The Jackets added 5 runs in the second, 1 in the third and 5 in the fourth to close out the win.

Kamille Carter smacked a pair of home runs for McAdory to roll up 5 RBIs. Winning pitcher Pearl Ryan went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and Payton Yarbrough was 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs. Ryan allowed the earned run on 3 hits with 2 strikeouts and a walk in 4 innings for the Yellow Jackets.

Robinett was 2-for-2 for Mountain Brook and Marianna Murray went 1-for-2.

Emma Durr took the loss in the circle, allowing 10 runs – 4 earned – on 8 hits with 4 walks. Mackenzie Wedell allowed 6 runs – 3 earned – on 5 hits in 1.1 innings of relief.

STATEWIDE

Brantley 11, McKenzie 1

The Bulldogs, ranked fourth in Class 1A, routed visiting McKenzie on Thursday.

Alex Grimes struck out 9 on the way to the win for Brantley (10-4) and helped her cause at the plate with a pair of hits, including a double, with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

HUNTSVILLE/TENNESSEE VALLEY

Westminster Christian 1, Decatur 1

The second-ranked Class 5A Wildcats battled 7A Decatur to a draw at home on Thursday despite outshooting the Red Raiders 19-3.

Freshman Caleigh Lewis scored at the 19th minute with a header on a corner kick from freshman Ava Martinez to give Westminster Christian a 1-0 lead. Decatur tied the game 1-1 at the 29th minute, also on a corner kick.

Wildcats goalkeeper Piper Blazier had saves on the 2 shots she saw in the second half.

Westminster (6-1-1) will travel to 7A Huntsville on Tuesday while Decatur (6-4-2) will host Hartselle on Friday.

On Tuesday, Westminster rolled over Madison Academy 10-0 with Martinez registering a hat trick and three of her teammates scoring 2 goals apiece.

Westminster Christian out-shot the Mustangs 32-3 in the mercy rule shortened contest.

Freshman Annie Collier and eighth graders Alex Menin and Alondra Pierce scored 2 goals each in the win. Junior Gabby Dean also scored a goal.

Calli Sloan, Elizabeth Riley, Menin, Martinez, Dean and Pierce all had assists.

In the second half, eighth grader Kora Kendrick relieved Blazier and stopped all three Madison Academy shots. Blazier did not see any shots on goal.

HUNTSVILLE/TENNESSEE VALLEY

Bob Jones 3, Lincoln County (Tenn.) 2

The defending Class 7A state champions won their second game of the year – and of the past week – in their final at-bat with the win over Lincoln County of Fayetteville, Tenn., at Madison’s Toyota Field on Tuesday.

The visiting Falcons scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to knot the score, but second-ranked Bob Jones answered in the bottom of the inning. No. 7 hitter Vincent Howald was hit by a pitch, center fielder Mason Rinehart sacrifice bunted pinch-runner Nick Koukos to second. Junior pinch-hitter Elijah Degante singled to left field to drive in Koukos from second to end the game.

Camden Martin and Tanner Hermesch both had a triple for the Patriots and Cole Spanier was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Reece Brazeal earned the win for Bob Jones despite giving up 2 runs – 1 earned – in an inning’s work in relief of sophomore Graham Segraves. Brazeal allowed 2 hits with a strikeout and a walk. Segraves went 6 innings, allowing no runs on 6 hits with 5 strikeouts and 4 walks.

Two Lincoln County pitchers struck out 11 Patriots and gave up 7 hits and 3 earned runs.

On Thursday in the Perfect Game Mid-South Showdown in Millington, Tenn., at the USA Stadium Complex, the Patriots slipped past Houston of Germantown, Tenn., 1-0 in a pitchers’ duel.

Hermesch shut down the Mustangs with a 1-hitter, while two Houston pitchers allowed a hit apiece in the loss.

Spanier went 1-for-2 and scored in the bottom of the second inning for Bob Jones. Robert Chatmon II got the other hit for the Patriots.

Athens Bible 3-15, Meek 4-5

The Trojans split a double-header on Tuesday to win its Class 1A, Area 14 three-game series with Meek. Athens Bible lost Tuesday’s opener in 9 innings before rolling over the home team in the second game. On Monday, Athens Bible won 13-3 at home. The Trojans are 11-3 on the season.

Ethan Barnes took the loss in relief of Ryan Faust, allowing an unearned run on no hits with 2 strikeouts and 3 walks. Faust gave up 3 runs – 1 earned – on 3 hits with 5 strikeouts and 4 walks in 6.1 innings.

In the 15-5 win, Luke Murrell had a triple and a single with 4 RBIs for Athens Bible. Chandler James also had a triple with an RBI. Barnes had a double and 2 singles with 5 RBIs. Luke McElyea had a single and an RBI and was the winning pitcher. He worked 5 innings, allowing 5 runs – 3 earned – on 2 hits with 8 strikeouts and 5 walks. Grayson Nayman also had a pair of RBIs.

On Monday, Murrell picked up the win, striking out 11 in 5 innings. He allowed a run on 2 hits with a walk. At the plate, he had 3 doubles with a 3 RBIs.

James had a double, 2 singles and 4 RBIs. Butler and Barnes also had an RBI each. Jake Banta had 3 singles and an RBI. McElyea doubled and had a single with an RBI.

BIRMINGHAM

Hewitt-Trussville 8, Mountain Brook 7 (9)

Cam Simpson went 4-for-6 at the plate, delivering his final hit of the day in dramatic fashion. The Hewitt-Trussville senior singled to center field to drive in a run in the bottom of the ninth inning for the walk-off win over Mountain Brook on Tuesday. A Mountain Brook error put the game-winning run on base.

Simpson had a double in the eighth and singles in the third, sixth and ninth innings. He also drove in a run with his single in the third.

Will Weaver tripled in 2 runs in the fourth inning to put Mountain Brook up 3-1 after Hewitt’s Boyd Cooper had driven in a run with a groundout.

A Jonah Jackson groundout RBI for Class 7A No. 1 Hewitt tied the game at 3-all in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jackson also helped tie the game at 6 apiece in the eighth along with a single, Simpson’s double and another double by Christian Helmers.

The Spartans, ranked second in 6A, had led 6-3 in the top of the eighth on a 2-run error and a Sam Estes single. Mountain Brook took a 7-6 lead in the top of the ninth on a Luke Houser RBI double.

Helmers gave up 6 unearned runs in 7.1 innings for Hewitt. He left after allowing only 1 hit with 10 strikeouts and 4 walks. Hudson Mitchell and Jacob Francis came on in relief for the Huskies.

Starter Caleb Barnett gave up an unearned run on 5 hits with 4 strikeouts and a walk for Mountain Brook.

Hueytown 13, Paul Bryant 1

Jarret Kauhn and Sam Vaughn drove in 3 runs apiece as the Golden Gophers pounded Paul Bryant in a home game on Tuesday. Kauhn went 2-for-3 with a double and Vaughn was 1-for-2 with a run scored for Hueytown.

Hueytown scored 9 runs in the bottom of the first inning to put the game out of reach.

Freshman Bronson Moore pitched a complete game in the run-rule 5-inning contest, allowing an unearned run on 3 hits with 7 strikeouts and 4 walks. He also drove in a pair of runs, going 1-for-2 at the plate.

Hunter Syx was 2-for-2 with a double and 2 runs scored with an RBI. Jose Irreaza was 1-for-2, Caleb Chapman went 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs and a run scored and William Vaughn was 1-for-2 with 2 runs scored.

Aiden Storey took the loss for Paul Bryant, allowing 13 runs – 12 earned – on 9 hits with 7 walks and a strikeout. Javion Johnson, Kellen Shivetts and Storey each had a single for the Stampede.

Oak Mountain 5, Benjamin Russell 4

The Eagles earned a walk-off win over Benjamin Russell at Choccolocco Park in Oxford on Thursday, scoring on a Wildcat error in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Gabe Jones went 2-for-4 for Oak Mountain with Noah Eady and Sam Prier driving in a run apiece in the win.

After Eady’s sacrifice fly RBI in the first, the Wildcats tied the game in the top of the second on an Oak Mountain error. A Benjamin Russell error in the second allowed 2 Oak Mountain runners to score for a 3-1 lead.

Will Calhoun smacked a 2-run single in the top of the fourth and the Wildcats scored on a passed ball to give Benjamin Russell a 4-3 advantage. Prier’s RBI single tied the game in the sixth inning.

Right-hander Ben Heath earned the win in relief for Oak Mountain, allowing no runs on no hits over 3 innings with 2 strikeouts and a walk. Starter Baker Williams gave up 4 runs – 1 earned – on 5 hits with 7 strikeouts over 4 innings.

Owen Dye was 2-for-3 at the plate in the loss.

Starter Ryder Mobley gave up 4 runs – 1 earned – on 5 hits with 6 strikeouts and 5 walks over 6 innings for Benjamin Russell.

Oak Mountain stole 7 bases in the game, 3 by Cole Kelly.

Homewood 9, Altamont 3

A two-out rally in the top of the third inning helped push the fifth-ranked Class 6A Patriots past Altamont on the road on Monday. Trailing 1-0, Homewood got an RBI from senior Thomas Davis, an RBI single from Jack Ross and a 2-run single from Auburn University commitment junior Levi Nickoli to pull in front.

Junior Cooper Sain earned the win for 15-3 Homewood, picking up his third win in four decisions this season. Sain went 5 innings, allowing an earned run on 3 hits with 5 strikeouts and a walk.

Junior catcher Cooper Mullins had 2 hits, including a double, with 4 RBIs in the win. Jack Bland was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and 2 runs scored.

Grant Hartman doubled and scored 2 runs for 2A Altamont. Aiden Owens had a double and 2 RBIs and Cruz Cunill also had an RBI.

Mountain Brook 14, Parker 2

The Spartans collected 9 hits and stole 11 bases in a runaway win at Parker on Thursday. Paul Barnett was 3-for-3 with a double, 3 runs scored and 3 RBIs.

Hunter Davis was 1-for-1 with 2 runs and 3 RBIs for Mountain Brook. Brooks Allen was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Boyd Cooper had 2 RBIs. Caleb Barnett had a solo home run for the Spartans.

Jude Davidson gave up 2 runs – 1 earned – on 2 hits with 8 strikeouts and a walk in 5 innings to get the win for Mountain Brook. Major Davis-Craig took the loss for Parker, allowing 2 runs – 1 earned – on no hits with 3 walks in one-third of an inning.

Mountain Brook took advantage of 7 walks in the win.

Terrion Nevels had an RBI for Parker with Jordan Willis and Michael Mincey getting hits. Willis stole a pair of bases.

Vestavia Hills 6-7, Central-Phenix City 7-5

The Rebels split a double-header at Central-Phenix City on Thursday, falling 7-6 in the opener before rallying in the final 3 innings to win the nightcap 7-5 at Darnell-Nelson Field.

In Game 1, Cross Tonsmeire had a pair of home runs among his 3 hits for Vestavia Hills with 3 RBIs. Gavin Smith also had a homer in the loss.

Central took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Briggs Cameron RBI single before the Rebels scored a run in the second and 2 more in the third. Cameron was 2-for-2 in the game. The Red Devils cut it to 3-2 in the third before Vestavia added another run in the fourth with Central answering in the bottom of the inning to put the visitors up 4-3.

Central took a 7-4 lead in the fifth when Cam Norton doubled in 3 runs and a wild pitch brought in another.

Smith’s home run in the top of the seventh brought Vestavia within a run.

Logan Wallace earned the win in relief of Emory Yohn. Wallace gave up 3 earned runs on 4 hits with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks over 5 innings. Yohn allowed 3 earned runs on 3 hits with 6 walks and a strikeout.

Chase Rafferty took the loss, allowing 6 earned runs on 4 hits with 6 strikeouts and 5 walks over 4.1 innings. Will Daniel gave up an earned run on 1 hit with 3 strikeouts over 1.2 innings.

In Game 2, the Rebels scored a pair of runs in the first, fell behind 4-2 after four innings before pushing across 2 runs in the fifth and sixth with another in the seventh.

Charlie Taafe went 5-for-5 with a solo home run, an RBI and 2 runs scored and pitched 3 innings in relief for Vestavia. He allowed an unearned run on 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks after taking over for starter Carson Purdy. Purdy gave up 3 earned runs on 2 hits with 2 strikeouts and 4 walks over the first 3 innings. Smith closed out the game, striking out 2 – including the final Central batter – with an unearned run on a hit.

Taafe was the only Rebel with multiple hits. William Tonsmeire doubled and Cross Tonsmeire, Connor Jenkins and Carson Mann also had hits in the win. Cross Tonsmeire, Smith, Will Langston, Jacob Harris and Mann also had RBIs.

Samuel Brown had a solo home run for Central. Leadoff batter Carter Freiberg was 2-for-4 with an RBI with Cooper Kehoe, Norton and Gavin Oswalt adding singles

Reliever Justice Baldwin took the loss, allowing 2 earned runs on 2 hits with a strikeout and a walk over 1.1 innings. Leeds 5, Pell City 4

Senior Jacob Calvin slapped a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the seventh to give Leeds a walk-off home win over Pell City on Thursday.

Pell City led 1-0 in the top of the first on a Jacob Burgos groundout RBI, but the Green Wave scored 3 in the bottom of the inning. Winning pitcher Conner Nelson, who was 2-for-3 on the day, doubled in 2 runs and Grayson Ford singled in another.

The Panthers tied the game at 4 in the top of the seventh before Calvin’s heroics.

Ty Bedell and William Thomas also had doubles for the winners. Nash Jones was 2-for-3 at the plate.

Nelson earned the win in relief for Leeds, allowing an unearned run on no hits with 2 walks. Brooks Ford started and gave up 3 earned runs on 4 hits with 4 strikeouts and 6 walks in 5 innings. Gavin Howard pitched a scoreless, hitless sixth inning.

Karter Perry took the loss, allowing 5 runs on 10 hits with 7 strikeouts and 5 walks in 6 innings.

MOBILE/COASTAL ALABAMA

Saraland 4, Saint Paul’s 3 (9)

Pinch-hitter Cooper Naugle picked up a single in the top of the ninth inning to drive in what proved to be the winning run over Saint Paul’s on Thursday.

Starter Cade Mason went 6.2 innings for Saraland, allowing 2 hits with 7 strikeouts. D’Tric Butler earned the win in 2.1 innings of relief with a strikeout.

Jamison Roberts had an RBI double for the winners, Santae McWilliams had 3 hits with Collin Smith and Hudson Robbins contributing a pair of hits apiece.

On Tuesday, Saraland topped Mary G. Montgomery 6-1 with Christian Rice pitching a complete game. He gave up 5 hits, 1 run with 3 strikeouts, to earn his second win of the season.

McWilliams and Fuller Chisholm added 2 hits with a run scored each. Myles Davis and Terran Senegal both had a hit and an RBI and Cooper Henson smacked a 2-run home run for the Spartans.

Satsuma 3, J.U. Blacksher 2 (10)

Cooper Crenshaw scored on a wild pitch in the top of the 10th inning to score what proved to be the winning run for the Gators at J.U. Blacksher on Tuesday.

Satsuma’s Crenshaw opened the inning with a single, stole second and took third on a failed pickoff attempt.

The Gators earned the win despite Blacksher’s pitchers striking out 16 batters.

Brayden Bailey drove in a pair of runs to put the Bulldogs up 2-0 in the first inning. Satsuma tied it in the third as Caison Chamblee scored on a sacrifice and Crenshaw was walked in for a run.

Michah Sullivan and KJ Austin had a pair of hits for the winners.

Hunter White had 2 hits for Blacksher and was saddled with the loss.

Parker Sells got the win in relief, pitching 3 hitless and scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts.

Satsuma (10-5) will host Alma Bryant on Friday while J.U. Blacksher will host Bayshore Academy for a double-header.

McGill-Toolen 6, Mary G. Montgomery 3

Christopher Tover scored a pair of runs and drove in another to lead the sixth-ranked Class 6A Yellow Jackets over 7A Mary G. Montgomery on the road on Monday.

Tover put McGill-Toolen on the board in the top of the second inning, reaching and scoring on an error that also drove in Colten Manley. In the fifth inning, Cullen Patrick singled to drive in Tover to stretch the lead to 4-1.

Fuller Musgrove reached base twice for MGM and had an RBI. Anderson Murray drove in Zack Cooper for the Vikings.

Starter Mitchell Adams earned the win for McGill, giving up a run on 3 hits with 7 strikeouts in 4 innings.

Cody Strickhausen gave up 4 runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts in 4 innings to take the loss.

Mary G. Montgomery (6-8) will host UMS-Wright on Friday while 12-3 McGill-Toolen plays at Murphy.

Orange Beach 5, Rattan (Okla.) 0

Matthew Steele faced 3 hitters over the minimum in a complete-game shutout for the Makos at home on Monday. The senior University of Montevallo commitment struck out 9 and walked 3 in the win for Orange Beach.

Joel Chandler and Austin Beck had multiple hits in the win.

STATEWIDE

Montgomery Academy 6, Andalusia 5 (9)

The Class 3A No. 9 Eagles improved to 10-1 on the year by outlasting Andalusia in 9 innings on the road on Wednesday.

Kingston Nelson went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and Reid McBride had a hit with 2 RBIs for Montgomery Academy. Vincent Desautels and William Marks had a pair of hits with Marks driving in a run.

Paxton Haigler, Chapman Baker and Finley Haigar also had hits in the win.

MA sent three pitchers to the mound with Desautels allowing 2 runs on 2 hits with 3 strikeouts in 4 innings as the starter. Marks pitched 4 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts. Andrew

Oak Mountain 4, Hoover 1

The top-ranked Eagles ran their two-year unbeaten streak to 48 matches with the win at No. 2 Hoover on Tuesday. Seniors Gabe Capocci and Roy Soldevilla scored 2 goals apiece for Oak Mountain, now 17-0 on the season.

Coach David DiPiazza’s Oak Mountain squad has won 37 in a row during the unbeaten streak.

Junior goalkeeper Alexander Chaidez had 3 saves in the win. Capocci had 5 shots for Oak Mountain.

The Eagles had 21 shots overall, 9 on goal on the night.

Patrick Anderson scored for the Bucs (12-1-1). Hoover had allowed 1 goal in each of its past four outings and 11 all season. Only one team – John Carroll, a 5-2 loser on Feb. 21 – had scored more than a single goal against Hoover.

MOBILE/COASTAL ALABAMA

Baker 10, Alma Bryant 0

Senior Grantham Morgan scored 4 goals to lead the Hornets over Alma Bryant on the road on Tuesday. Morgan, Baker’s leading scorer, had a pair of goals in the first half to give the visitors a 3-0 halftime lead.

Valentino Garcia, Peter Nkingi, Kayson Lawrence, Bryan Fugon, Japhet Girukwishaka and Maddox Lugo also had goals in the win.

Naith Allen and Jackson Vella combined for the clean sheet in goal for the Hornets.

Baker (10-3-1) had won three in a row and eight of its past nine games and will play at Theodore on Thursday.
