The Apple Watch has been the most popular smartwatch since its debut in 2015, and the company is currently developing a future iteration with an integrated camera, according to a Bloomberg report published on Sunday. The standard model of the Apple Watch with an “inside-the-display” camera, and the Ultra model with a visible camera beside the Digital Crown are said to launch within the next two years, the report suggests.
According to Bloomberg, an Apple Watch with a camera will be able to “see the outside world and use AI to deliver relevant information.” This will extend Visual Intelligence, currently limited to iPhones with a camera control button, to Apple Watches. Apple is also reportedly working on an AirPods Pro model with a camera, expected to offer similar capabilities.
The upcoming Apple Watch and AirPods, when paired with an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence, are likely to work together to deliver a new Apple Intelligence experience. This includes the ability to scan surroundings, provide personalised insights, and even answer user queries.
However, don’t expect to see an Apple Watch with a camera and Visual Intelligence anytime soon. These features are likely to arrive only by 2027 and will be powered by in-house AI models.
Apple has faced setbacks in delivering some AI features, particularly the overhauled and personalised Siri. The company has reportedly shuffled its leadership team, and another Bloomberg report claims that the revamped Siri might not arrive until at least iOS 20, expected by the end of 2026. Bloomberg also reports that Apple is rebuilding the entire personalised Siri experience from scratch.
