Finn Jones Begs to Play Iron Fist in the MCU

Ever since Netflix’s Iron Fist series was canceled in 2018, the people behind the show and even the suits at Marvel has said that the characters from the series would “live on.” There were plans to bring the show to Disney+, and plans to make a feature film. Now, with all the Netflix Marvel shows being added to Disney+ and their characters being incorporated into the MCU, the fate of Iron Fist is relevant again, especially after Echo and the new show, Daredevil: Born Again. Will Iron Fist be born again, and will its original star, Finn Jones, return as Danny Rand / Iron Fist, just as Charlie Cox did as Matt Murdock / Daredevil? He certainly wants to. Speaking at La Conve Monterrey, an anime convention in New Mexico, Jones told the audience (via Cosmic Marvel):

“I’m very aware of the critiques of the character and my role in it. My response to that is: give me a f*cking chance, man. I’m here and I’m ready, and I wanna prove people wrong.”

What Jones is referring to is a steady stream of criticism regarding the series and his casting in particular. Marvel fans have criticized the series for its weak fight choreography and lack of visual flair, but also for its inconsistent and unbelievable portrayal of Iron Fist himself. Jones believes that with different writers and directors, he would be able to prove himself as the ideal Danny Rand. He had previously pushed for the role, telling The Nerd Shepherd:

“I would love to see the chemistry between me and Mike again. It was always fantastic. I think those are really interesting characters to put together. If they would bring me and Mike back to do a Heroes For Hire TV series, I think it would be the right way.”

Meanwhile, Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter is down to return as well, telling The Hollywood Reporter in June 2024, “One hundred percent [I would return as Jessica Jones]. I am ready, and I would, of course, be there in a heartbeat. She’s a character who I absolutely love, and she was a part of my life for so long. I played that character for five years, and she’s a character who’s very important to me and many women and men. So if the opportunity calls, I may or may not have an extra jacket already.”

While Iron Fist is possibly the least liked of ‘The Defenders Saga,’ the multiple TV shows have only grown in acclaim over the past decade. That’s partly because of Disney+ adding the Netflix Marvel shows to their service, with a host of new MCU fans discovering these shows for the first time. With Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher, and Iron Fist combining to form The Defenders, the combined saga has been a kind of made-for-TV alternative to the expansive MCU. Time will tell how all of these characters, if any, will be incorporated into future Marvel shows, but one thing’s for sure — Finn Jones wants to be a part of it. You can watch Iron Fist on Disney+
