City of Montrose invites residents to vote on a theme for City Hall art piece

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -Residents of Montrose can now vote for a theme for a new piece of art that will be at Montrose City Hall.

According to city officials, the artwork will be a lasting piece of public art installed on the southwest exterior wall of the building.

Residents will get to vote on three potential themes, an interactive display theme that people can interact with, a local shout out theme that highlights unique elements of the area, and a botanical theme that uses plants and flowers.

Residents can vote through a survey on the City of Montrose website. The survey will close on March 23rd.

“The city is excited to bring this art installation to life in downtown Montrose, and we want the community to be a part of this process,” said Michelle Wingfield, Development and Revitalization Team (DART)/community programs coordinator. “By voting on the theme, residents can help guide the creative direction of this installation.”

Officials also said once a theme has been selected, the city will launch a Call for Entry for artist proposals. A team of representatives from city staff, Montrose Center for Arts, business owners, City Council members and Youth City Council Members will review the proposals and select a design by early May.

The artwork is expected to be installed in the summer of 2025, and has a total budget of $50,000 dollars.
