For two decades, local artists of all ages have found a stage for their creativity through “For The Love of Art” — a passion project led by longtime private instructor Rhonda McEnroe. Now, as the fifth and final installment of the exhibit approaches, nearly 20 artists from across the region are preparing to showcase their talents one last time.
Held at the Ralph Center on the Kentucky Wesleyan College campus from March 14 through April 15, the exhibit will highlight a diverse range of artistic styles, culminating in a special reception on March 16.
The exhibit will feature works from artists as young as 12 up to seasoned creators in their 80s. Two 15-year-old artists, Mercy Tanner and Xaia Hoover, will also showcase their musical talents, volunteering to play piano during the event.
McEnroe has spent 50 years teaching both private and group art lessons and first launched the exhibit in 2003 as a way to validate and celebrate her students’ hard work. Originally scheduled to take place every 5 years, the event was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and personal circumstances. Now, after two decades, this exhibit will be the final installment in the series.
“This show is a culmination of years of dedication and passion,” McEnroe said. “It’s a chance for these artists – some who have been painting with me for years – to share their work with the community and have their talent recognized.”
The exhibit will feature a variety of mediums, including watercolor, acrylic, graphite, colored pencil, mixed media, soft pastel, oil pastel, and oil paintings. One unique piece comes from Hoover, who created an oil painting and crafted a three-dimensional doll, which will be displayed alongside her artwork.
McEnroe expressed gratitude to Kentucky Wesleyan College for providing the gallery space and to the community for its ongoing support. She hopes the exhibit will serve as an inspiration to future generations of artists.
“For The Love of Art V” is free and open to the public during the Ralph Center’s operating hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, contact McEnroe at 270-993-2282.
