Finn Jones Asks Marvel To ‘Give Me A F—ing Chance’ To Come Back As Iron Fist – What’s On Disney Plus

With the return of Daredevil to our screens in a brand new series, “Daredevil: Born Again”, which tells the story of Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, who is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.

The show has brought back many of the actors from the original “Daredevil” series, that originally premiered on Netflix, including Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Jon Bernthal as “The Punisher” and Vincent D’Onofrio as the Kingpin.  Along with Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Wilson Bethel and Ayelet Zurer, who all starred in the previous Netflix shows.

With the original Netflix shows now considered canon within the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, it has opened up the possibility of some of the other Defender characters, such as Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, also potentially returning to our screens.

One of the most controversial characters from the “Defenders” series, was Iron Fist, who was played by Finn Jones and had two seasons of his own show that follows Danny Rand, who was presumed dead after a plane crash, that returns to New York City after fifteen years to reclaim his family’s company and fight crime, utilizing his martial arts skills and the power of the Iron Fist.

During a recent appearance at the LaConve anime convention in Mexico, Finn Jones shared his hopes to return to the character of Iron Fist:

“I’m very aware of the critiques of the character and my role in it.  My response to that is like, give me a fucking chance, man. I’m here and I’m ready. I want to prove people wrong. So I would love to see that happen.”

When the “Iron Fist” shows were originally released on Netflix, they received a lot of hate from critics and fans. That is why Finn Jones wants so desperately to come back and try to fix those mistakes, many of which weren’t down to him, such as the script and the fight scenes.

Earlier this year, while promoting “Daredevil: Born Again”, Brad Winderbaum, who is the head of Marvel Television and Streaming, hinted at being able to tell more stories with those former Netflix characters in the future.

“I can’t say much, but I’ll tell you that it’s so exciting to be able to play in that sandbox. Obviously we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book. If you can draw it, you can do it. It’s dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television. But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring.”

You can watch both seasons of “Iron Fist” on Disney+ now.

Roger’s Take: With many of the other actors returning from the former Netflix originals, I personally would like to see Finn Jones return as the Iron Fist, because given a new creative team, the character could be interesting to watch.  I don’t necessarily think the character needs his own show, but as a Defender or member of another group like the Thunderbolts, I’d be happy to see him return.  However, Marvel also needs to be realistic with the options of recasting actors in characters, especially as many of the actors in the Marvel shows and films are getting much older.  But a cameo or two of Iron Fist in future episodes of “Daredevil: Born Again”, or even a revival of “The Defenders” to bring a new superhero team show to Disney+, sounds like a good idea to me.

Would you like to see the return of “Iron Fist” within the MCU?  Let me know on social media!
