Marvel fans have been wanting the return of their favorite Netflix-era characters, especially after Charlie Cox’s Daredevil made his grand re-entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with ‘Daredevil: Born Again’. The show, despite having a lot to prove, met all fan’s expectations.
With Vincent D’Onofrio reprising his role as Kingpin and Jon Bernthal returning as The Punisher, speculation is rife about other characters making a comeback. One name that keeps surfacing is Finn Jones, the actor behind Iron Fist.

At the anime convention La Conve Monterrey (via IGN), Finn Jones addressed the swirling rumors and his own eagerness to reprise his role. With unfiltered passion, he declared, “Give me a f—— chance, man. I’m here and I’m ready, and I wanna prove people wrong.” The actor made it clear that he is aware of the criticism that plagued ‘Iron Fist’ during its two-season run on Netflix.
The show, initially launched in 2017 as part of Marvel’s ‘Defenders’ series, received harsh criticism, with its first season scoring a dismal 20% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the second season saw significant improvement with 55%. Despite the better reception in its later episodes, ‘Iron Fist’ was canceled in 2018. Fans were left wondering if Danny Rand would ever get a proper send-off.
Now, with Marvel Studios reportedly considering bringing back other Netflix-era heroes like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, Jones sees an opportunity to redeem himself and the character. However, the biggest hurdle in Jones’ return to ‘Iron Fist’ is the skepticism from fans and critics alike.
Many felt his portrayal lacked the charisma and martial arts prowess expected from the character. People complained about underwhelming fight sequences and a lack of depth in Danny Rand’s arc. However, Jones has defended his performance, stating that he did the best he could with the material and time constraints he was given.

Jones has made it clear that if given another opportunity, he would love to explore Danny Rand’s story further. However, particularly in a ‘Heroes for Hire’ series alongside Mike Colter’s Luke Cage. The duo’s chemistry was a highlight in ‘The Defenders’, and fans have long clamored for an adaptation of the classic Marvel comics partnership.
“I think I’m in a place professionally where I would like to continue to grow with that character,” Jones said last year. “I would love to see the chemistry between me and Mike again. It was always fantastic. I think those are really interesting characters to put together. If they would bring me and Mike back to do a Heroes for Hire TV series. I think it would be the right way.”
‘Heroes for Hire’ could be the fresh start Jones needs. While ‘Iron Fist’ struggled with rushed fight choreography and inconsistent storytelling, this series could play to the strengths of both Iron Fist and Luke Cage. It would also allow Marvel to reintroduce Danny Rand in a more polished and refined manner. It would also distance the character from the shortcomings of his initial series.
