Selena Gomez Was Once “Mortified” at Taylor Swift’s Party

With just one day left before the release of their collaborative album, I Said I Love You First, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco are getting real about their habits as Hollywood’s cutest couple. Speaking on a new episode of Spotify’s Countdown To series, the duo revealed their rather extreme punctuality—especially when it comes to festivities hosted by Gomez’s longtime friend Taylor Swift.

It all started when Blanco asked his fiancé, “What was our first party that we ever went to?” To which Gomez replied, “I don’t know if this was the first but it was actually really funny. As a couple we went to Taylor’s [Swift] party after some awards show,” she said, implying that they were the first guests to arrive. “I don’t know, it was kind of cute, but I was mortified. Apparently cool people don’t show up to parties on time.”

“We’re the first people at every single party when I go with you,” Blanco agreed. “You show up when like my mother shows up to a party.”

He went on, “No, I thought you were gonna talk about the fact that no one knew we were dating and we were hiding the fact that we were dating, so we didn’t even touch each other or really look at each other!”

Of course, so much has changed since then.

After keeping their romance under wraps, Blanco and Gomez went public with their relationship in December 2023, when the “Love On” singer began replying to comments in fan posts about the duo.  “He is my absolute everything in my heart,” she wrote. The revelation came after a decade of friendship, which began with their first collaboration in October 2015.

Blanco got down on one knee in a Taco Bell-themed engagement almost exactly one year after the couple first started dating. Gomez took to Instagram to share the happy news, captioning her carousel, “Forever begins now..” In response, Swift quipped, “yes I will be the flower girl.”
