Timewasting will soon have different consequences in games.
A new rule passed by lawmakers IFAB is set to change how goalkeepers trying to run down the clock is punished with an amendment to the current six-second limit.
Instead of being punished with an indirect free kick for holding onto the ball longer than an eight-second period, referees will be award a corner to the opposing team.
Match officials will use a โvisual five-second countdownโ to warn goalkeepers of the looming cut-off with the change coming into effect from the start of July.
