Driving a NASCAR stock car is an inherently difficult task, but external conditions can take that difficulty to the extreme. That was Brad Keselowski’s reality during Sunday’s EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas. On a day where temperatures inside Keselowski’s No. 6 Ford crossed the century mark, his cool suit failed, leaving him little protection from the intense heat. The failure of Keselowski’s cool suit came at a physical track in COTA, where the 20 turns and constant shifting take a major toll on the body of every driver in the field. Keselowski was forced to compete while facing much higher temperatures inside his car than the rest of the field, which, aside from making the task of racing more difficult, also poses health risks such as heat exhaustion. However, the 2012 champion wasn’t fazed, driving his way to a 15th-place finish at a track type he’s struggled on in recent years.Â
According to a social media post from RFK Racing, Keselowski was okay after receiving IV fluids in the infield care center.
