CAA Softball Weekly Awards – March 24, 2025
RICHMOND, Va. – Delaware’s Sydney Shaffer and Stony Brook’s Kyra McFarland split Player of the Week honors, while Emma Falen of Hofstra and Hannah Cornetto of Campbell captured Pitcher and Rookie of the Week honors on Monday.
Co-Player of the Week
Sydney Shaffer, Delaware
Junior | Catcher | Ashland, Va.
Shaffer slashed .438/.591/1.375 with five home runs, five walks and six runs scored. Shaffer hit two home runs in game two of a doubleheader against Rider on Tuesday and then hit two on the road against Hofstra. The Ashland, Va., native became the first Delaware player since at least 2008 with back-to-back multi-homer games. She also went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, two runs scored and a walk against Hofstra on Sunday.
Co-Player of the Week
Kyra McFarland, Stony Brook
Graduate Student | Infielder | Greeley, Colo.
McFarland put forth a .643/.688/1.071 slash line in a 3-2 week for Stony Brook. The graduate infielder hit safely in all five games, posting a pair of multi-hit efforts and capping off her week with a 4-4 performance that featured a walk-off homer against Charleston. For the week, McFarland was 9-for-14 at the dish with three extra-base hits, four runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base. Her first homer of the season lifted the Seawolves over the Cougars, 5-4, and clinched Stony Brook’s second CAA series victory of the season.
Pitcher of the Week
Emma Falen, Hofstra

Falen posted three wins in as many appearances last week with 16 strikeouts across 15 innings of work in the Pride’s 4-1 week. Against UMBC on Wednesday, Falen pitched four innings and tied a career-high with eight strikeouts, surrendering just two hits and two runs against UMBC. In a start versus Delaware on Friday, Falen pitched five innings with six strikeouts to knock off the Blue Hens, 10-6. Falen entered Saturday’s game in the seventh frame and pitched six innings in relief with a pair of punchouts to lift Hofstra to a 5-4 win over the Blue Hens in 12 frames.
Rookie of the Week
Hannah Cornetto, Campbell
Freshman | Infielder | Suwanee, Ga.
Cornetto slashed .417/.600/.667 for the week against Queens and Towson. The freshman infielder unloaded seven RBIs and five runs scored last week, logging five hits and five walks for the Camels. Cornetto hit an eventual game-winning two-run shot in the opening game of its doubleheader against Queens to secure a 2-1 win. She followed up with a two-hit effort, knocking in a run and registering a tally in the sweep. At Towson, Cornetto scored three times and drove in two runs with the bases loaded after walking and being hit by a pitch in game one. She proceeded to smack a pair of singles and plated a pair of runs in game two to secure the series. The Suwanee, Ga., native rounded out the week reaching base safely in two of her three plate appearances.
