The Washington Capitals announced several fun marketing initiatives on Monday, commemorating Alex Ovechkin’s chase of Wayne Gretzky’s NHL goals record. Ovechkin is currently eight strikes away from history after lighting the lamp for the 887th time in his career Saturday against the San Jose Sharks.
Seven different Washington DC area landmarks are already in the process of having Ovechkin goals record countdown clocks installed. And if you’re anything like me, the trackers will not only make you want to take a photo but crave moar goals as well — perhaps while eating chili.
The countdown clock’s design features an LED board that shows how many goals remain before Ovechkin breaks the record (currently they read 8 GOALS TO GO). The tracker is flanked on each side by an Ovi chase and Washington Capitals logo. The countdown clocks currently announced are located in Northern Virginia and Washington DC.

The Capitals are encouraging fans to share their pics of the goal countdown clocks on social media. The team also says that “select rink partners” will receive installations in the future as well.
