NFL free-agency rankings: Which teams and players deliver the best value? | The Athletic

Thuney produced by far the most total AV of any free-agent signing during the 2021 to 2024 window at 45. No other player was above 30. And there was no other player besides Thuney above 30 during the 2020 to 2023 window, either. It came at a cost, of course, as the Chiefs spent $64 million in cash.

Chiefs Host Females in Flag Coaches Summit for Women’s History Month | The Mothership

The event, held in partnership with RCX Sports Foundation, NFL Flag/Females in Flag and Gatorade, welcomed over 50 participants, including athletic directors, coaches and officials from Kansas and Missouri. The Chiefs are the first NFL team to host this coaching series, a new, all-inclusive clinic aimed at recruiting and training coaches while keeping all league participants updated on the best practices in Girls Flag Football. The clinic also introduced new educational components to further develop the sport.

“At the Chiefs, we are proud to support initiatives that empower women and girls in sports,” said Lara Krug, Kansas City Chiefs EVP and Chief Media and Marketing Officer. “This Females in Flag Coaches Summit is just one example of our commitment to creating more opportunities for female athletes and coaches. As we celebrate Women’s History Month, it’s important to highlight the strides being made in Girls Flag Football, and we’re excited to continue championing this movement in our community.”

Rashee Rice outlines his goals for when he returns to Chiefs | Kansas City Star

Rice has been posting social-media videos of his workouts in Florida with Sharif “Reef” Tabbah, a doctor of physical therapy, and he seems to be moving without an issues.

Rice was on the “I Am Athlete” podcast and was asked if the injury affected him mentally.

“Yeah, for a long time, honestly,” Rice said, “especially just me seeing X (Xavier Worthy), Hollywood (Brown), just all my guys out there being able to ball. We had training camp, and just training camp was a glimpse of what we knew was gonna happen for the rest of the season. So, I mean, it took a toll on me mentally, but the best thing I could do was continue to surround myself with those guys and just being around the program as much as I can so I can keep my mind clear.”

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly in the market for a new running back as Kareem Hunt will hit free agency. Isiah Pacheco is still their starter but after his long-term injury, the Chiefs are waiting out this upcoming season whether to extend him or not. While Edwards won’t take Pacheco’s job, he could be a useful backup option to move the chains.

Sources — Raiders land Seahawks’ Geno Smith for 3rd-round pick | ESPN

Las Vegas gave up a 2025 third-round pick (92nd overall) for Smith, sources said. The deal ends his six-year stint in Seattle, where he revived his career and became a two-time Pro Bowl selection.

Smith has one year and $31 million left on his contract. The Raiders are taking on all $31 million, a source told ESPN’s Brady Henderson. The Seahawks will save that $31 million in cash and cap space while taking on $13.5 million in dead money.

In 2024, Smith, 34, completed 70.4% of his passes while throwing for 4,320 yards, 21 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He helped the Seahawks finish 10-7, but they didn’t make the playoffs in their first season under coach Mike Macdonald.

Kirk Cousins met with owner Arthur Blank; Falcons don’t intend to release QB | NFL.com

Cousins has a no-trade clause in his contract, Pelissero added.

Albert Breer of The MMQB first reported the news.

Cousins, who signed a four-year, $180 million contract with the Falcons last offseason, struggled during his first campaign in Atlanta while overcoming his Achilles tear from the previous season. He started the first 14 games of the season but became increasingly inconsistent at the midway point. During Atlanta’s four-game losing streak from Week 10-14 that eventually doomed the team’s playoff chances, Cousins threw zero touchdowns and eight interceptions, which contributed to head coach Raheem Morris turning to first-round rookie Michael Penix Jr. as starting QB in Week 16.

Lavonte David re-signing with Buccaneers on 1-year deal | ESPN

David had been noncommittal on a return at the end of the season, and the Bucs afforded him time to weigh his options.

He chose to return to the team for his 14th season. He has been a team captain for 11 consecutive campaigns.

“I love the game to much to give it up just yet!” David wrote on Instagram. “Good lord blessing me with another opportunity so I figured I should take advantage of it! Tampa I’m not done yet!”

Chiefs Roster: A free agent for each offensive position

WR Tim Patrick, Detroit Lions

Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy represent the future of Kansas City’s wide receiver room — so I looked for an X receiver who can win one-on-one against man coverage, win on downfield plays and run intermediate routes over the middle.

Wideouts like Davante Adams could do that at a high level — but I’m not sure that an X receiver is that kind of a priority for the Chiefs. The team needs a player who can get around 50 catches, 600 yards and a handful of touchdowns. A player like that is pretty easy to find.

Patrick could fill this role. While he isn’t the same player he was before his Achilles injury, he’s still a big wide receiver who can win against physical coverage and contested catches. He’ll be 32 this season, making him an ideal bridge to an X receiver taken in the draft. The 2025 class has plenty of Day 2 options that could help Kansas City in the future.
