Crandon Golf Course reopens after $5 million upgrade | Key Biscayne

Crandon Golf Course at Key Biscayne has new life thanks to a $5 million renovation project.

Miami-Dade County officials recently were on hand for the reopening of the golf course along with golf pros who were impressed with the enhancement of the facility.

The renovation project commenced in May 2024, shutting down portions of the park, and was earlier this year.

The renovations included upgrading the course’s playability, sustainability and overall experience even amateurs and novice golfers would enjoy.

“We are thrilled to reopen Crandon Golf Course and showcase the incredible enhancements made through this transformative project” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “These improvements reflect our commitment and dedication to provide exceptional recreational experiences for residents and visitors while addressing the critical and environmental challenges of the future.”

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Raquel Regalado, whose district covers the golf course, said the upgrade also addressed several environmental challenges including a new irrigation system to ensure optimal conditions year-round.

“The reopening of Crandon Golf Course represents more than a new chapter for its greens – it’s reflective of our commitment to environmental resilience and sustainability. From drought-resistant plants to upgraded irrigation systems that conserve water, these improvements are part of our vision for a greener, more resilient Miami-Dade,” said Regalado.

The expanded tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels, and renovated sand bunkers featuring advanced concrete capillary technology for improved durability and performance was also included in the renovation plans.

Additionally, the introduction of Paspalum grass provides a sustainable turfgrass solution, addressing challenges posed by rising sea levels and supporting long-term environmental resilience.

“The reopening of the Crandon Golf Course represents our mission to provide exceptional recreational opportunities for all Miami-Dade County residents and visitors,” said Parks Director Maria I. Nardi. “These upgrades elevate the playing experience while conserving resources, protecting ecosystems, and inspiring future generations to care for our planet.”
