It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the New York Knicks are a tier below the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers.
If the franchise wants to be viewed as a serious threat in the Eastern Conference, it should upgrade its roster in the offseason by any means.
FS1’s Colin Cowherd believes New York should consider swapping Karl-Anthony Towns for an NBA-champion Milwaukee Bucks forward this summer.Â
“The Knicks can’t beat good teams,” Cowherd said Wednesday.Â
“They’re 0-3 against the Celtics, 0-2 against OKC (Oklahoma City Thunder), 0-2 against the Cavs, and that’s great in a way. Because there’s 100% clarity in the building that they’re good, and some nights, very good, but they’re not great.”
“They’ve got to do what the (Los Angeles) Lakers did. LeBron (James) and AD (Anthony Davis) were good. They actually won a title, and the Lakers moved off of it. “I think it’s Giannis (Antetokounmpo). My take on this: you’d probably have to move KAT (Karl-Anthony Towns).”
“You’d probably have to move OG (Anunoby). You’re going to have to get rid of Mikal Bridges, or an OG, and about five first-round round picks. That’s what they’ve got to do.”
Antetokounmpo is no longer guaranteed to finish his career with Milwaukee.Â
The Bucks’ memorable 2021 championship run was one for the ages, but it isn’t healthy for high-caliber NBA contributors to live in the past.Â
Antetokounmpo, a Top 10 downhill driver and finisher averaging 30.8 points, 12.1 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game, would love to orchestrate another deep playoff run with the Bucks.Â
However, a fourth-consecutive postseason letdown could lead to a potential blockbuster trade involving the Bucks, Knicks, and Antetokounmpo.Â
Acquiring an asset like Antetokounmpo, who’s already proven he can elevate an organization to new heights, could give the Knicks the spark they need to turn up the heat in the Eastern Conference.Â
Towns has been phenomenal with the Knicks this season, but a season-altering deal for Antetokounmpo could force him to adjust to life in Milwaukee swiftly.Â
