The 32-5A district executive committee voted in favor of Brownsville Lopez during a hearing regarding a possible ineligible player Monday, clearing the athlete to take part in competition.

The meeting was called after accusations arose of a Brownsville Lopez soccer player competing in the professional ranks in Mexico.

The player in question was ultimately deemed eligible by unanimous decision during the hearing, with the DEC voting 9-0 in favor of Brownsville Lopez.

“The 32-5A DEC hearing was conducted today at Weslaco East High School. The committee heard the testimony and voted 9-0 in favor of Lopez,” said Brownsville ISD athletic director Gilbert Leal in an email sent to RGVSports. “The committee voted unanimously that Section 441 of the Amateur rule was not proven.”

Brownsville Lopez currently sits atop the District 32-5A standings with a 13-0-2 mark, holding a seven point advantage over Brownsville Porter and Harlingen South.

The state title contenders can lock up their second consecutive district title with a win Tuesday against Edcouch-Elsa.
