BILLINGS, Mont. – The MSUB Men’s Soccer Action Group has successfully raised $200,000 in pledges, meeting the initial requirement set by the school to keep the men’s soccer program alive for another year.
Though no formal announcement has been made by the school, a statement was released acknowledging the efforts of the alumni group. It read, “We commend the alumni group for working on pledge commitments for men’s soccer. Until full commitments and a sustainability plan are in place, we can’t comment any further.”
Despite reaching this milestone, the action group recognizes that more work lies ahead. They still need to raise an additional $900,000 to sustain the program for the next five years, as per the school’s request.
The school has expressed willingness to assist in this endeavor, and the reinstatement of the program for this year is expected to provide a boost.
Alex Balog, a member of the MSUB Men’s Soccer Action Group, emphasized the potential impact of community involvement. “If a camp is put on, that money can go towards that goal, if the field is rented out that money can go towards that goal, and so that is going to go a long way,” he said. “When the program gets reinstated, people are gonna see those student athletes on campus, in the community, on the field in the fall competing and trying to win games for MSUB, and hopefully that’s gonna motivate people to keep helping the program out.”
The deadline to raise the additional $900,000 is January 1 of next year. Balog expressed gratitude to community members and alumni for their support and is eager to continue working with the school to achieve their goal.
