FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State men’s golf heads to Bandon, Oregon this week, returning to action at the Bandon Dunes Championship hosted by the University of Idaho. The tournament will be held March 9-11 at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.
Tournament Schedule
The tournament will consist of 54 holes across three 18-hole rounds, with the first round teeing off with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. CT/8:30 a.m. PT on Sunday. Monday and Tuesday’s rounds will also feature shotgun starts with a 10:30 a.m. CT/8:30 a.m. PT tee off.
The Field
The Bandon Dunes Championship will feature 15 teams in the competition. Hosted by the University of Idaho, the field also includes the Bison, along with Air Force, Boise State, Boston College, Cal State Northridge, Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State, North Idaho College, Oregon, San Jose State, Seattle, SIU-Edwardsville, Tarleton State, and Utah Valley.

The Course
Located in Bandon, Oregon, the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort is home to the Bandon Trails course which the championship will be played on. Rated as No. 6 in Golfweek’s Top 100 public golf courses in the United States for 2024, the Bandon Trails course is a par 71 with a yardage of 6,794 and holds a rating of 74.9 with a slope of 136. Opened in 2005, this was the third course added to the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, following the namesake Bandon Dunes and Pacific Dunes courses. Built atop a sand dune, the Bandon Trails course features dramatic ocean views during an 18-hole trip through the dunes, to higher up in the costal forest, and finally back down to finish in the dunes for the final holes.
Bison at the Bandon Dunes Championship
Due to cancelation after half of a round in 2024 because of inclement weather, the Bison look to complete the Bandon Dunes Championship for the first time in the 16 years the event has been running. The men’s team had not attended the tournament prior to 2024.
Bison Competing
NDSU will take six golfers to the Bandon Dunes Championship. The golfers competing will be Ian Simonich, Rylin Petry, Josh Galvin, Jake Skarperud, Max Wilson, and Sean Moore.

- Ian Simonich enters the Bandon Dunes Championship following a 10th place finish at the Loyola Intercollegiate, where he shot all three rounds under par. As the only Bison to claim a tournament victory this season, Simonich has posted five finishes in the top 15 out of six tournaments.
- Rylin Petry led the Bison through the fall semester, posting a 72.1 scoring average and a .892 win percentage. Petry posted four top-10 finishes in five events during the fall, and posted a team best round of -5 (67) at the Monterrey Collegiate Classic to wrap up the fall semester in late October.
- Jake Skarperud has posted a 73.5 scoring average with seven rounds of par or better so far in 2024-25.
- Josh Galvin has also played every round for the Bison this season and has the team’s third best scoring average with a 72.7. Galvin has nine rounds of par or better this season and an .817 win percentage with three top-10 finishes.
Looking Ahead
Following the Bandon Dunes Championship, the men’s team will have a week off before heading to the UC San Diego Invitational March 23-25. This event will be held at the world-famous Torrey Pines Golf Course, in La Jolla, California.
