Doug Nussmeier has officially followed Kellen Moore from the Philadelphia Eagles to the New Orleans Saints.
Two days after the Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9, the Saints named Moore as their head coach.
Moore had been the offensive coordinator for Philadelphia during the 2024 season, with Nussmeier working as the quarterback coach for the Eagles. With Moore moving up in New Orleans, so is Nussmeier, who was hired as the Saints’ offensive coordinator, the NFL team revealed on Thursday when it announced its 2025 coaching staff.
Brandon Staley is the defensive coordinator, and Phil Galiano is the special-team coordinator.
New Orleans chose Nussmeier, an Idaho quarterback, in the fourth round of the 1994 NFL Draft, and he spent four seasons with the team. Nussmeier played in five regular-season games, with two starts (both losses to the Atlanta Falcons), for the Saints.
Since starting his coaching career in 2001, Nussmeier’s stops have included Alabama, where he worked as offensive coordinator in 2012 and 2013. The Crimson Tide defeated Georgia 32-28 in the SEC Championship Game and Notre Dame 42-14 in the BCS national-title contest for the 2012 season.
Since then, Nussmeier has worked as the offensive coordinator at Michigan and Florida, tight-ends and quarterbacks coach for the Dallas Cowboys and quarterbacks coach for the Los Angeles Chargers and Eagles.
Nussmeier and Moore have been on the same coaching staff for the past seven seasons.
The New Orleans coaching staff also includes Bo Davis as defensive-line coach. Davis served in that position for Alabama in 2014 and 2015. He comes to the Saints after working as LSU’s defensive-line coach in 2024.
Grady Brown is the new cornerbacks coach. Brown is a former Wenonah High School and Alabama A&M standout whose coaching career has included stops with his alma mater and Alabama State. Brown joins New Orleans after working as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defensive-backs coach.
During the 2024 season, the Saints posted a 5-12 record. Among the NFL’s 32 teams last season, New Orleans ranked tied for 24th in points and 21st in yards.
