HUMACAO, Puerto Rico – Hannah Rabb took home the individual title, and the James Madison women’s golf team finished second at the rain-shortened Puerto Rico Shootout on Thursday morning.
Rabb, a freshman from Watsontown, Pa., finished with a 36-hole score of 139 (-5) to pace the 82-player field at the Palmas Del Mar Country Club and its par-72, 6,026-yard layout. She carded a career-low 68 (-4) in the first round – the best score by any player in the field throughout the tournament – before recording a 71 (-1) in the second round.
As a team, the Dukes posted their best finish in stroke play of the 2024-25 season, producing a 36-hole team score of 583 (+7) to finish second in the 13-team field, five strokes behind UNC-Greensboro (578, +2).
Rabb’s title made her the first JMU women’s golfer to win an individual title since Maria Atwood won the River Landing Classic on March 4, 2024. It is JMU’s second runner-up finish of the spring after placing second at the Great River Cup on Feb. 18.
Joining Rabb in the top five was Tatum Walsh, who collected a two-round aggregate of 143 (-1) to tie for fifth. Walsh, a senior from Midlothian, Va., carded rounds of one-under 71 and even-par 72. Colorado transfer Lauren Waxer-Gooding produced another solid finish, placing tied for 28th at 149 (+5).
Playing as an individual, Kayleigh Reinke tied for 47th with rounds of 76 (+4) and 77 (+5). JMU’s other individual, Amber Mackiewicz, came in 80th with scores of 83 and 84.
Atwood, making her first lineup appearance of the spring, tied for 51st with a 36-hole score of 154 (+10). Isabella Flores (157, +13) tied for 65th to close out the JMU representation in Puerto Rico.
