Slot comments on the City and Chelsea transfer market

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is happy with the Reds’ ability to compete against big-spending Premier League clubs.

The British News Agency reported that Norwegian Erling Haaland, Manchester City striker, renewed his contract for 9 and a half years, today, Friday, for 500,000 pounds sterling ($610,000) per week.

What happened at City is in contrast to the current situation at Liverpool, where the contracts of its stars Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold expire next June, without any of their files being resolved yet.

Asked if City’s financial strength meant they were putting pressure on Liverpool’s form, Slot said: “It’s not just about investment, but we know how much skill we need to have to continue to compete in this competition.

“It’s not just the club you’re referring to, Chelsea have spent £1.2bn, Manchester United have spent a lot of money.

“All the clubs spend a lot here, that’s one of the reasons why it’s such a fun competition to have,” the Liverpool manager continued.

“In one season that club might spend a little bit more, others might spend a lot, that’s the secret to the enthusiasm and the strength and the difficulty of winning here.”
