ST. LOUIS — The University of Missouri-St. Louis is discontinuing two of its NCAA athletic teams.
UMSL, with its campus in north St. Louis County, said this week its men’s and women’s track and field teams will stop operations at the end of the spring 2025 semester. The teams compete in both indoor and outdoor track, which operate as separate seasons in the NCAA calendar. UMSL competes at NCAA’s Division II level and is a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, whose membership also includes local colleges Maryville University and McKendree University.
The decision to cut the track and field teams comes after “a comprehensive review of the university’s athletic offerings and resource allocations,” UMSL said in a news release. The university attributed the discontinuation of the track and field teams’ due to lack of an on-campus facility, budget considerations and program enrollment trends.
