Decentralized social platform Discord is introducing ads to its mobile experience for the first time. The platform’s 200 million monthly active users, who coalesce in custom-built forums for gaming and communicating, will see video ads within Discord’s mobile app starting in June.
The non-skippable “Video Quests” ad format was introduced last fall, when Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max became the first brand to launch a video ad on the platform. The streamer ran a two-minute trailer for its Dune: Prophecy series that, despite its longer length, captured audience attention, achieving an 85% completion rate.
The development comes amid rumors that the platform is considering going public.
