Chisholm Trail Heritage Center celebrates 11th annual National Youth Art Month

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – It’s National Youth Art Month, and the 11th year of the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center held a reception recently for young artists.

153 students represented 5 schools including Duncan, Elgin, Fame, Marlow, and Walters.

Organizers say this year’s theme is “Art Connects Us.” And say this year’s art, which is beautiful and creative, will be on display for the entire month of March.

Fame art teacher Jason Hawkins says art is more than just eye-pleasing, it has purpose.

“I know a lot of our students really talk about how it just lets them kind of have a release, and lets them express themselves,” Hawkins said. “If they’re having a bad day or going through something difficult they can go to art class or do some type of art and it really just gets their mind off things.”
