Jon Moxley’s AEW Dynamite Match Sparks Outrage As Gruesome Spot Goes Viral

Jon Moxley got fans talking following his latest match on AEW Dynamite with a graphic spot in his latest World Championship defence.

While Moxley has been known to up the violence in his matches with barbed wire, skewers and broken glass all previously used, a recent match featuring the World Champ went viral on social media and made many uncomfortable over what took place.

In a rematch from Revolution, Moxley once again put the title on the line against Cope on the March 19th edition of AEW Dynamite, this time in a street fight. While standard weapons such as tables and chairs were a part of the earlier stages, Cope later made things Rated R by bringing in his nail-filled board Spike into the bout. Following multiple shots to Moxley’s midsection, the World Champion was suplexed onto the board.

The board remained stuck in Moxley’s back for an extended period with commentary noting that he needed a tetanus shot immediately. The match was then paused as Wheeler Yuta and the referee attempted to free Moxley as the World Champion looked to be in incredible pain over what just happened. Finally freed from Spike, Moxley went on to win the match by choking out Cope following interference from The Deathriders and Nick Wayne.

The clip went viral on social media with many voicing concerns for Moxley’s well-being and questioning why the spot was allowed to go ahead as it was considered too far even for a Moxley match, which have become notorious for being violent. However, there have been some who have praised Moxley for taking the spot.

Jon Moxley Drove All Day To Make It To The Show

The March 19th edition of Dynamite aired live in Omaha, Nebraska, which had weather warnings in place ahead of the show due to winter storm Nyla. As reported by Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, Moxley drove for 11 hours to make sure that he could make it onto the show:

“There were several individuals who were supposed to fly in that couldn’t and so they drove in…I believe Moxley is one of the people who drove like 11 hours to get to the building because they couldn’t fly in,”
