Nine local basketball, soccer teams are seeded in CIF-State regionals

The Eagles will visit Temecula-Rancho Christian in Tuesday’s first round.The CIF-Southern Section Division 2AA champion, which reached the semifinals in its last three regionals, has moved up a division in its last three state tournament appearances.The Eagles have won 25 of their past 30 postseason games, including three straight CIF-SS titles.The Nordhoff High girls basketball team is the No. 6 seed in the CIF-State Division V regional. The Rangers will host San Diego-Crawford in Tuesday’s first round.The St. Bonaventure boys basketball team is the No. 10 seed in the CIF-State Division II regional. The Eagles will play Bakersfield Christian in Tuesday’s first round.This is the sixth time a school has sent both its boys and girls basketball teams to the state tournament. Oak Park, which previously achieved the feat in 2012, also joins Santa Clara (1989), Oaks Christian (2011, 2014), Foothill Technology (2018), and Oxnard (2019).The Channel Islands boys soccer team is the No. 7 seed in the CIF-State Division IV regional. The CIF-SS Division 6 champion Raiders will visit Laguna Beach in Tuesday’s first round.The Oaks Christian girls soccer team is the No. 6 seed in the CIF-State Division I regional. The Lions will visit Bakersfield-Liberty in Tuesday’s first round.The Westlake High girls soccer team is seeded No. 5 in the CIF-State Division II regional. The Warriors will visit San Luis Obispo in Tuesday’s first round.The Thousand Oaks High girls soccer team is seeded No. 3 in the CIF-State Division III regional. The Lancers will host Santa Ana-Foothill in Tuesday’s first round.The Thacher School girls soccer was seeded No. 2 in the CIF-State Division V regional. The CIF-SS Division 6 champion Toads were scheduled to play Temecula Prep on Tuesday, although Thacher athletic director Jason Carney confirmed to The Star that they weren’t planning on participating.The Ojai boarding school is on spring break this week and much of its roster is not on campus.“We are definitely not playing in the tournament,” Carney said.Kickoffs are scheduled for 5 p.m.Joe Curley is a staff writer for The Star.
